Instant Abilities > Discard or Remove

Special Conditions

Ending a battle in mutual destruction or stalemate condition requires that both players pass initiative without playing a card prior to the battle being resolved.

If you play a card that discards or removes your own characters from battle (e.g., Death of Unrighteous or Deceit of Sapphira), you do not have initiative since you are causing your own discard or removal.  Your opponent has initiative.  You could only gain initiative if your opponent plays a card.

Dominant cards may be played at any time (see Dominants Played During the Battle Phase in the rulebook [p. 28]), but abilities that take effect instantly must resolve first.  For example, if your hand is targeted for discard (e.g. Primary Objective), Son of God may not be played until Primary Objectives special ability has resolved.  By that time, the card is already discarded and cannot be played.

If you are required to discard a specific card from hand and you do not have that card in your hand, you must show your hand.

You may discard an angel from hand and place it in Chamber of Angels instead of the discard pile.

Christian Martyr cannot discard characters treated as Lost Souls.

When using Jephthahs special ability, the holder must have a draw pile and must discard two characters in the same territory unless only one character is available.

If you discard your opponent’s Tartaros, you must also discard its contents.  Being discarded, your Tartaros allows you to capture all the demons for your Tartaros.
