Instant Abilities > Interrupt or Negate Last

Special Conditions

If a site holding a Lost Soul was removed by a special ability, the Lost Soul is returned to the site if the special ability that removed the site is negated.

Exhausted artifacts (and covenant cards or curse cards used as artifacts) that must be discarded after use are discarded immediately after use.  The ‘Discard after Use’ phrase on artifacts cannot be interrupted, prevented or negated(e.g., Ark of the Covenant, Unholy Writ, etc.).

Negating an artifact means negating the special ability of the artifact, not its use.  The use of an artifact is not negated because it has been active for part of another player’s turn and has already been used (even if not for the desired effect).

Negating an artifact during battle does not go back and replay the whole turn as if the artifact was not there; it only negates the special ability of the artifact from the current phase forward.

A character must remain in battle with matching brigade for enhancements being interrupted to take effect again after an interrupt card is played.  If no character remains, the enhancements do not take effect and are discarded.

Dominant cards cannot be played while an ‘interrupt the battle’ card is in the process of being resolved.  All abilities that take effect instantly (e.g. Play Next Enhancement) must be resolved first in order to complete the interrupt, at which time Dominants may be played.  Ongoing special abilities (e.g. Ignore or Repel) continue to have their effect after the interrupt ends, so Dominant cards may be played after the interrupt has ended while ongoing abilities are still in effect.

Cards that negate Lost Soul cards, such as Invisible Beings, Abram/Abraham, and I am Salvation, can only negate the special ability of Lost Soul cards, as long as the special ability was not completed on a previous turn.  For example, Invisible Beings can negate the Jeremiah 7:18 (‘Female’) Lost Soul because its special ability is continuous, but cannot negate the Psalms 1:4 (‘Site Doubler’) since its special ability is completed on a previous turn.

You must have initiative to negate a card that removes a character from battle (e.g., discard, conversion, capture).   For example, Helez is blocked by Saph banded to Goliath. If Saph is converted and Goliath is discarded by Angel of the Lord, the conversion cannot be negated because Goliath was still defeating Helez by the numbers after Saph was converted.  However, if Helez is blocked by Lot’s Wife banded to Possessing Demon, Lot’s Wife is converted, and Possessing Demon is discarded by Angel of the Lord, a negate card can be played on Lot’s Wife to negate her conversion because initiative transferred when Lot’s Wife was converted.

Placing a card in the discard pile removes it from play, but does not remove the ability to negate it by (1) interrupting the battle or (2) interrupting the last enhancement played in battle. However, a "negate last enhancement" negates the last enhancement regardless of its current state (in play, discard pile, converted to a character, etc.).

Gamaliel may choose to interrupt and prevent any enhancement immediately after the enhancement is played.  However, once another enhancement is played on the evil Pharisees or Sadducees, the previous enhancement can no longer be interrupted and prevented.
