• I block a Hero with Saph and band in Goliath. My opponent discards Saph. I counter with Foolish Advice to negate special abilities on all cards. This results in the following: (1) Saph is returned from the discard pile into battle, (2) Saphs banding ability is negated, sending Goliath back to my territory, and (3) the battle is play by the numbers. Since Saph and Foolish Advice are different brigades, the ability on Foolish Advice does not count and it is discarded.
• The “cascading negate” in a banding situation only applies if the “play by the numbers” character negates the banding. The “cascading negate” does not apply if another character negates the banding (e.g., The Twelve-Fingered Giant).
• Some cards allow other brigade colors to be used. If the battle becomes “play by the numbers”, the abilities to play other brigades is negated and the enhancements that do not match the character(s) remaining in the Field of Battle must be discarded.
• Holy of Holies prevents the special ability on a “play by the numbers” character, but not a “play by the numbers” enhancement.
• Healing cards can be played after battle because the “play by the numbers” effect ends at the end of the Battle Phase.
• Artifacts discarded by Crucify Him are returned from the discard pile if Crucify Him is negated.
